3. Vermillion Valley Resort

VVR is a well-worth side trek off the trail. But beware, it is easy to fall into the VVR vortex. With a free beer upon arrival and everything else added to a tab, it is easy to rack it up quickly while enjoying the amazing meals, a ping pong table and horseshoes, camaraderie and nightly campfires.

There is a $30 resupply charge for packages up to 25 pounds. Many southbound hikers choose to pass up VVR and continue on to Muir Trail Ranch because the two resupply options are only 30 miles apart.

There is a $95 fee to send your resupply here, there is a small store that sells camp gas and other items. There is a backpackers campground and if you cross the river you can find Blaney Hot Springs or take a dip in Mermaid Lake, a warmer than usual lake because of a hot spring that feeds into it. In the past there were hiker boxes but that is no longer the case.
